The river IJssel
at the
mysterious tiny village of Zalk
The Saint Nikolaas church of Zalk at the left
is from
the 14th century. The tower is much older and
very different.
Many castles were standing here of criminal
raiders,
the biggest castle was the infamous castle of
Buckhorst.
All these castles have been destructed.
Inundations were often fatal. The village of
Coten
was erased from the Earth by heavy flooding.
In 1926 during flooding in the whole country
also the village of Zalk was flooded by a
breach in the dyke.
